About PDA Support

At My Therapy House, we support families with children who show signs of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) or who have strong demand avoidant behaviours. These children are often sensitive, anxious, and easily overwhelmed by everyday demands.

You are not alone. And your child is not being difficult on purpose.

We are not psychologists. We are a team of speech pathologists, occupational therapists, and early childhood teachers who understand PDA deeply.

Our therapy space feels like a home, with a garden, calming rooms, and sensory motor spaces that help children feel safe and settled.

Finding the Right Path for Your Family

Sometimes, what feels urgent, like getting your child into therapy right away, may not be where we begin.

Often, starting with parent coaching is the most effective first step.

Why?

Because when you feel more grounded and calm, your child feels safer too. That’s when change begins.

We’ll always listen to what’s important to you and gently recommend what we believe will support your child and family best.

You don’t have to do it all alone. We’ll walk alongside you.

Our Support Options

1 to 1 Face to Face Sessions With Your Child

We focus on trust and connection, not pressure or behaviour charts. We use play, movement, and gentle strategies like declarative language to:

  • Support communication and emotional regulation
  • Build safety and trust
  • Follow your child’s pace and interests

Parent and Child Sessions

These sessions help strengthen your relationship with your child. We guide you to:

  • Recognise your child’s cues

  • Build confidence in how you support each other

These sessions are for you.
We help you:

  • Explore feelings like fear, shame, guilt, anger, or sadness
  • Reframe unhelpful stories (like “my child always misbehaves”)

  • Explore other options if needed (like medication or alternate therapies)
  • Take care of your own nervous system because your child feels what you feel

My Therapy House Availability

Telehealth Sessions

In telehealth sessions, we work with you directly.
You send us short video clips of your child at home, playing or doing something familiar.
We use these to:

  • Understand how your child communicates
  • Assess comprehension and emotional regulation
  • Offer you personalised coaching and guidance

You’re in the driver’s seat.
You make the changes, and we walk beside you.

Working With Your Child’s Team

We’re happy to talk with your child’s psychologist, GP, teacher, or other therapists.
We can also provide reports or letters to support school transitions, funding applications, or other needs.

What Matters Most

  • Relationship over behaviour
  • Co-regulation over control
  • Understanding over fixing

You Are Not Alone

Whether we work with you face to face or online, with your child or just with you,
we are here to help you understand your child and feel more confident in yourself.

Let’s take the next step together.
