What is your role at My Therapy House?
I am the Senior Occupational Therapist at My Therapy House. I get the privilege of working with clients and their families and seeing them grow. I am also involved in supporting other therapists in their work with clients and families through my supervision role.
How long have you been working at My Therapy House?
I have been working at My Therapy House since its inception – 8 years! I was able to assist in the set up of the different spaces and resources.
Why did you choose to work at My Therapy House?
I chose to work at My Therapy House after I had a taste of paediatric practice in my role beforehand. I had known Dana since my university placements and reconnected with her via a training she was running in May 2015. I began working for My Therapy House in July 2015. It was incredible timing for me to transition into a new role as my previous contract ended. It was meant to be and I am so grateful I get to work here!!
What is your favourite thing about working at My Therapy House?
The team and the way we are able to work together, encourage each other, and how we are able to support clients and families. Working with families brings me joy as I get the opportunity to connect with and support others.
What were your favourite play activities when you were a child?
I was never a doll person. Instead I loved playing with plush toys. When I was younger I had ALOT of plush toys and I used a rotational system to ensure they were all played with equally – I have always been about ensuring everyone is treated equally haha! I also really enjoyed playing hockey from the age of 5 and any outdoor activity with my brother. We created a game of roller hockey in the backyard and we would rollerblade around with hockey sticks bumping into all sorts of things – but it was so much fun!
What is your favourite thing to do when you are not working?
I really enjoy the beach or the outdoors at any time of the year. It could be a stroll, or sitting outside reading a book. I also love spending time with dogs. One of my friends said I ‘collect dogs’ through my friends i.e. I don’t have my own but being able to spend so much time with other people’s dogs brings me joy.
What is your favourite food?
My favourite food changes – but at the moment I would have to say potato bake!
What is your favourite saying?
I don’t particularly have a favourite saying but I love the writing of Morgan Harper Nichols as she is insightful and I often find quotes I love through her writing. I also recently discovered she is neurodivergent.
What photo are you sharing and why?
I love this photo because it shows me what I like doing best in my down time – nature walks and beach walks.
