What is your role at My Therapy House?
I am the Therapy Assistant at My Therapy House. This involves assisting therapists with, for example, creating resources for clients; administrative duties; as well as working with clients under the supervision of therapists. I also take care of our inventory, including many resources, to make sure everything is documented and allocated to a specific spot to make them easily accessible.
How long have you been working at My Therapy House?
I have been working at My Therapy House since September 2021, so almost two years and loving it!
Why did you choose to work at My Therapy House?
When I finished my Cert III Allied Health Assistant, I wanted to look for a job that was very practical, caring and involved working with children. At that stage, there were not many therapy job assistant job opportunities available, so I started my own research and looked at a few websites of companies working with children, and My Therapy House was by far the best one that stood out (play based, early intervention, working within an amazing multidisciplinary team, and so on). I decided to send an email to see if I could work there as a volunteer (there were no job listings and I really wanted to be part of the team), and I received an answer back within a couple of minutes from Dana being so positive and welcoming, and I knew in my heart this was my place to be, and luckily for me she created my job position, and I have been here ever since. It feels like a third home (my home where I live, Belgium is my second home where I come from, and My Therapy House is an additional home).
What is your favourite thing about working at My Therapy House?
Working together as a close team, working with children and their parents, sharing knowledge and values. I love being a member of the My Therapy House family.
What were your favourite play activities when you were a child?
I used to play a lot of soccer with my 6 year older brother. I loved playing with Barbies, playing hairdresser with dolls, and yes I did cut my own hair multiple times :).
Every Sunday, my cousins came to visit my grandparents who lived next door, so that day was always something to look forward to.
What is your favourite thing to do when you are not working?
Going for walks with my husband and furbaby, catching up with friends and family, relaxing, watching movies and series. The rest of the time I am studying hard to become a Speech Pathologist. I’m in my second year now!
What is your favourite food?
European cuisine such as Italian, Greek and French. My favourite is steak, with french fries and pepper sauce, yum! Even though I am not really a sweet tooth, I am more than happy to make exceptions for Crème Brûlée :). I also love Grill’d burgers.
What is your favourite saying?
Carry on smiling and the world will smile with you!
What photo are you sharing?
I travelled to many countries all over the world, but when I arrived in Australia as a backpacker (Working Holiday Visa) in 2016, and meeting my now husband after only 2 months in the country, I knew this was not just another country ticked off my bucket list, but my new home. Seven years later, I can proudly say I am an Aussie Citizen! I feel so fortunate that my parents from Belgium, together with my husband, were able to witness this special day, as the international borders had just been reopened and face to face citizen ceremonies were just starting again after Covid.
