What is your role at My Therapy House?
I am the Director, Founder and Speech Pathologist at My Therapy House.
How long have you been working at My Therapy House?
I have been here since inception in July 2015. My Therapy House was my dream and vision since 2010!
Why did you choose to start My Therapy House?
I have always wanted to create a safe and fun place for children and their families to visit and people to work with. My dream has always been to create a space in which people would feel wanting to visit as well as empowered and energized to work in every day. I have always wanted to retire having people I love, cherish and admire around me who have the same work ethic, values and vision as I do.
What is your favourite thing about working at My Therapy House?
Seeing the children and their parents and caregivers grow and develop. Staff loving their work, chatting amongst themselves how to best help the children, talking play all day and every day.
What were your favourite play activities when you were a child?
Outdoors play – on my bike and in the tree at the front of our yard. We had a big tree which looked like a bush and we would play in it with the neighbours’ children – pretending we were keeping house. The birch tree had sprinkles we would use to play fairies with who had magical powers.
What is your favourite thing to do when you are not working?
Camping, hiking, walking, resting on the couch and watching Netflix.
What is your favourite food?
Anything anyone else cooks for me – I love it!
What is your favourite saying?
‘When the going gets tough, the tough get going’ – My Year 7 teacher taught me this on the day we graduated!
What photo did you choose and why?
I chose the photo of a hike my husband and I did in the Southern Flinders ranges. I love large majestic trees because they ground me. Hiking grounds me and is a great way to re-energise for the working week.
