What is your role at My Therapy House?
I am one of the Speech Pathologists.
How long have you been working at My Therapy House?
I joined My Therapy House in September 2022, so it’s been 10 months for me, though it feels like I’ve been here much longer than that!
Why did you choose to work at My Therapy House?
A couple of reasons: I love the team environment, where I get the chance to have regular chats with my amazing colleagues about how to best support the children and their families. I really enjoy the focus on learning through play and the social-emotional frameworks and treatment approaches that My Therapy House uses to help children meet their goals. Plus it’s so FUN!
What is your favourite thing about working at My Therapy House?
The way we celebrate all the wins and positives – whether that is with clients during sessions or with the staff.
What were your favourite play activities when you were a child?
I had a huge teddy collection which I loved, I would have picnics and tea parties for them! I also enjoyed making up lots of different games with my younger brother, e.g. pretending the floor is lava and jumping from couch to couch in the living room, or using the cardboard tubes from the glad wrap as swords and pretending to be pirates. I enjoyed exploring whatever was available to me, be that using my dad’s tools while he was working on a project, or making various things, like mud pies, figuring out how a needle and thread works, making flower necklaces, playdough, making forts, turning the bathtub into a water park, the list goes on! As I got older I enjoyed board games and spent many hours of school holiday time playing classic video games like Donkey Kong, Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Kart and Legend of Zelda.
What is your favourite thing to do when you are not working?
Where do I begin! I love going to the footy, doing Greek folk dancing, spending time with my family and friends and my latest hobby, which is cross stitching.
What is your favourite food?
Wild greens – Greeks have a sixth sense for knowing which random plants that grow in your garden can be eaten or not! Every summer I enjoy the ritual of gathering the greens fresh from the garden, boiling them and eating them with lemon, salt, olive oil and crusty bread. I could easily eat them every day for the rest of my life!
What is your favourite saying?
‘Our life depends on the kind of thoughts we nurture. If our thoughts are peaceful, calm, meek, and kind, then that is what our life is like.’
This quote is from a book I’m currently reading, “Our thoughts determine our lives”, by a Serbian Orthodox monk.
What photo are you sharing
I am sharing a photo of me backstage at one of my dance concerts – dancing is a way that I fill up my cup, so that I can give to others. Dancing makes my soul happy, it’s how I learn more about my culture, keeps me active and it’s so much fun!
