Parent Training Programs

What is it?

Parents are taught specific strategies as the foundations for supporting their interaction with their child and their child’s development

How Long?

9 weeks

How?

Weeks 1 and 9 with parents alone. Weeks 2 to 8 inclusive with parent and child.

Outcome:

You will learn skills to support your child’s attention, connection, interaction, learning and play. Your child will learn how to play and interact with you.

What is it?

Therapists train parents in programming and using a Voice Output Communication Device (VOCD) with their child.

Speech Pathologists

How Long?

Up to 6 weeks

How?

Speech Pathologists will teach you about planning, programming and using the VOCD with their child at home. You will be able to practice this with your child during their therapy sessions after you have learnt the foundations.

Outcome:

You will learn skills in programming and using the VOCD with your child.

Parent Programs

What is it?

Program to give individual parents the skills and confidence needed to support their child’s goals so they can be the best parent they can be for their child. This program works on the parents’ mindset, beliefs, values and emotions.

6-8 weeks

How?

 The therapist works with the parent using a structured program

Outcome:

You will develop skills, transform your mindset, challenge any limiting beliefs about yourself and your child, and build emotional resilience so you can support your child in the way your child needs to be supported. A written summary will be provided.

What is it?

Parents can access therapists via phone call or telehealth to ask questions and discuss matters about parenting and their child.

How?

Therapists offer a one-off consultation to you to discuss any issues or questions you may have about your child and strategies to support them.

Child-Centred Programs

What is it?

Therapists work with children and parents to support children’s development towards one or two of their goals.

20 weeks

How?

Weeks 1, 8 and 15 with parents alone. The rest are with the parent and child.

Outcome:

You will learn new skills to support your child’s development towards their goals. Therapists will work with your child on one or two specific goals. A Development Plan will be provided highlighting the steps in achieving these goals.

What is it?

Therapists work with children and parents to support children’s development towards their goals.

How?

Therapists work with parents and children over the duration of the child’s therapeutic program with annual reviews.

Pre-requisites. Parent Strategy Program

What is it?

Speech Pathologists work with children and parents to support children’s communication development. This can be in any area of communication including speech, language and comprehension.

Who for?

Parent and child

Who by?

Speech Pathologists. Co-therapy as Speech Pathologist will need to model strategies and talk to parents about the strategies.

How Long?

6 weeks

How?

Weeks 1 and 6 with parents alone. Weeks 2 to 5 inclusive with parent and child.

Age:

0-10 years of age

Outcome:

You will learn new skills to support your child’s communication development.

Pre-requisites. Parent Strategy Program

What is it?

Occupational Therapists and/or Development Through Play Practitioners work with children and parents to support children’s regulation development. This can be in any area of sensory-motor regulation or emotional regulation.

Who by?

My Therapy House Therapists. Co-therapy with another discipline supporting the child’s profile and parent learning.

How Long?

6 weeks

How?

Weeks 1 and 6 with parents alone. Weeks 2 to 5 inclusive with parent and child.

Age:

0-10 years of age

Outcome:

You will learn skills to support your child’s regulation development.

What is it?

Therapists work with the child and parents to support the child’s anxiety and their ability to stay in an interaction and form relationships. We do this through various strategies such as using declarative language and following the child’s interests.

Parent and child.

Who by?

My Therapy House therapists. Co-therapy to support the child’s profile and parent learning.

How Long?

7 weeks

How?

Weeks 1 and 7 with parents alone. It’s important that we do not talk about your child in front of them.

Weeks 2-6: Co-therapy (2 therapists) with parent and child.

Age:

0 to 12 years of age

Outcome:

To build the child’s safety, trust, and understanding, and support you to feel confident and connected in your parenting.

What is it?

Therapists work with 2 or more children individually to support children’s social-emotional development in small peer groups.

Who for?

Child only.

Who by?

My Therapy House Therapists. Each child is supported individually.

How Long?

20 weeks

How?

Weeks 1, and 15 with parents alone. The rest are with the child only.

Outcome:

Your child will learn new skills to support their social-emotional interactions with peers. You will be involved in setting goals for your child and reviewing your child’s progress.

What is it?

Therapists assess an area of the child’s development depending on the child’s needs and parent’s requests.

Who for?

Child. Parent involvement is optional.

Who by?

How Long?

Up to 6 weeks

How?

First and last week with parents alone to obtain information and discuss results.

Age:

0-10 years of age

Outcome:

You will learn more about your child’s development in the areas assessed. A written report is optional for an additional cost.

What is it?

A free weekly podcast for parents informing them about different areas of parenting and children’s development.

What is it?

The My Therapy House Team will occasionally visit the child in their community to address any issues parents or teachers may have identified. These are one-off visits or a block of sessions at home during school holidays. Formal Assessments can be carried out at the child’s school by arrangement.
