Experience and Skill

My Therapy House® is a small family owned business. We understand children, communication and relationships. We have over 75 years of combined experience in helping children interact and communicate with others.

Our services are personalised. We know that each child is unique, and therefore all our programmes are unique to suit your child. We understand that each child interacts and communicates differently.

We have an environment which has specially designed inside and outside play areas supporting children’s interactions and learning in natural ways.  Children feel it is their place. They run in with confidence, joy and excitement. After one or two visits they start interacting and communicating with others.  Parents better understand how to interact and support their child.

If you want the best start for your child, contact us online now.
Children and relationships are our passion.

Clinic Consults

We provide assessments and therapy sessions in a purposefully designed home like environment to help children and families feel comfortable and inspired to learn and develop. We have invested time and resources in training staff and building up many resources to address children’s different needs. Each room has sensory motor equipment and suspension points to hang swings and hammocks; we have a wide range of musical instruments including a piano, keyboards, various drums, guitars, percussion instruments and an Autoharp; we have a wide range of toys that promote language, pretend play, helping children talk about their experiences and inner worlds using a mode that they are comfortable with; we have various resources to promote speech and language development. Each resource, piece of equipment and toy has been carefully chosen keeping children’s development and learning in mind. During your initial visit you will be able to see our indoor and outdoor spaces and why children enjoy coming to My Therapy House®

Visiting Consultants

At My Therapy House® we work closely with visiting consultants as part of the team to ensure families have a seamless service. Sometimes the consultants are local, other times they are from interstate. At this stage, we are working closely with Dr. Margaret Kyrkou, who is a Medical Consultant (GP) specialising in Developmental Disabilities. All of our staff work closely with interstate or international supervisors in the area of childhood development and special needs. These supervisors and mentors provide us with the latest evidence based best practice to ensure the service we deliver to children and families is the latest in child development and parenting.

Dr. Margaret Kyrkou works under the Medicare Scheme. Margaret Bulk Bills all families via Medicare. Margaret’s appointments at My Therapy House® typically last 45 minutes. Home visits or school visits can be arranged and may attract a gap fee. Margaret may also be able to participate in a multi-disciplinary case conference under the Medicare Scheme. This may also attract a gap fee.

Online Consults

Many families have asked us if we can offer online consults. Now we can! Online consults are for families and professionals who need that bit of help, guidance and/or advice between appointments around their child’s development and best ways to support their child, or for families who can only visit us during school holidays because they live further away. Before the online consult we ask families to complete our Online Consultation form and have a video ready (if possible) to view. We then watch the video together with the family and talk about what we saw, what the family experienced and possible strategies to trial. We are also available to observe parents or carers playing with their child live, and then provide online coaching during the play session and short feedback after the session. If parents do not have a video, then we can discuss strategies. It is often best to see a video together and discuss what was experienced for the parent and child.

Resources

At My Therapy House® we have developed resources to help children develop through music and play. Our resources are developed by the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that all areas of the child’s development are addressed. We are continuing to develop resources to help your child’s development and you as a parent to support them.
